The Star Trek universe has been a perky place of late, with announcements of supplementary TV series and complex potential supplementary film projects on the horizon. However, higher than the weekend one of those film projects, the follow-up to Star Trek Beyond, seemed to come to a crashing halt as both Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth, who were time-honored to star in the film, walked away from negotiations after the studio reportedly asked both stars to consent a pay cut. though that would seemingly execute any chance this supplementary movie had of getting off the field (my colleague, Adam Holmes, says Pine's departure should be a dealbreaker), the fact is that the adjacent Star Trek movie doesn't actually habit Captain Kirk.
To be clear, the adjacent Star Trek movie had been reported to have a plan that revolved as regards get older travel and would have seen George Kirk, played by Chris Hemsworth in the native Star Trek reboot film, recompense in some capacity. Clearly, making that particular story without the two Chrises would be likely impossible, but there's no explanation you can't create a supplementary Star Trek movie without James T. Kirk.
While the bin office may not operate it, I actually think Star Trek higher than is the best of the reboot universe Trek films. A huge part of the explanation for that is because it doesn't rely as heavily on Captain Kirk as the hero of the movie. The crew of the Enterprise gets split stirring for a large part of the film, and each little outfit is unlimited some get older in the spotlight. Sure, Kirk still gets to operate operate hero as the boy racing as regards on a motorcycle, but he's still one enthusiast of an entire crew, and the entire crew is made stirring of good actors who can easily carry a movie.
As Star Trek: The adjacent Generation showed us on television, Star Trek is good with it focuses on the people, and uses the science fiction character straightforwardly as a backdrop for these character interactions. though the Captain is an obviously important character on a starship, he doesn't have to be an important character in the story.
For that reason, Star Trek straightforwardly doesn't habit Kirk, and appropriately it doesn't habit Chris Pine. A Star Trek movie doesn't habit to be a Kirk story. It can be a Spock story or a Bones story or an Uhura story. It doesn't habit to focus on any one character at all, actually. If Kirk isn't there, then a story practically why he's not there, and how the crew as a entire sum reacts to that, feels with an obvious place for a story to go.
After all, the last get older a Star Trek movie was missing a major character, the plan focused on finding him again, and the reboot films adore to create reference to the native series films, appropriately it's an obvious place to go.
Of course, the adjacent Star Trek movie doesn't habit to even character with a talk to sequel to Star Trek Beyond. You could treat it as a spinoff, and single-handedly focus on a couple of characters, tell Spock and Uhura. You could depart the entire in flames of the cast out of it, and still create a Star Trek movie. Just because the movie might consent place concurrently with Enterprise crew we know and adore doesn't intend it has to be practically that.
Odds are that, one mannerism or another, this issue will be dealt with and Star Trek 4 will acquire incite on track, but if it doesn't, it's straightforwardly not the stop of the world. James T. Kirk is an important part of Star Trek, but he's not the single-handedly part. Star Trek doesn't habit to be a star vehicle for anybody. If the story is mighty enough, the supplementary actors are more than gifted of making a Star Trek movie that's worth seeing and worthy of brute called Star Trek.
